Notes on Style and Fashion

Archive for the ‘Skirts’ Category

Seasons ago it was the low-rise. Low-rise slacks, low-rise jeans; they were ubiquitous. Yet, as years have passed, the waistline of pants and skirts have slowly crept up, up, up to the point where it’s now in to wear high-waisted bottoms. The trend is, in essence, an updated retelling of fashion from the 1930s. Personally, I love the style from the late 20s/early 30s era. I gained an appreciation for it after reading novels like The Great Gatsby and Passing. Additionally, I found myself being drawn to the style when I discovered Conde Nast art almost ten years ago. Vintage Vogue covers like these sparked an interest:

October 1, 1932
and May 1, 1931

To bring the trend into the real world, here are a few pieces, from high-end to affordable, that pay homage to this vintage style.

la fashionista has had an interest in fashion and style since childhood when she first saw her mother dress in the various fashion of the 80s. Her mother was also a great seamstress, which was a definite influence on la fashionista's foray into fashion. Sadly, her mother's sewing talent did not get passed on to la fashionista.

But that doesn't mean that she doesn't still love talking about fashion. Because she does!
